DAMIAN ORTEGA, born 1967 in Mexico-City, lives and works in Berlin and Mexico-City Damián Ortega utilises a variety of different artistic forms of expression: his work incorporate installations and sculptures as well as photography and video. Ortega ascribes a less important role to the object itself than the activity performed with it. His analytical examination of modern design and modern architecture use modular structures and everyday materials almost as if he aims to display the reason for their omnipresence. In his work "Cosmic Thing" (2002) a VW-Beatle was disjointed into its individual parts now floating in midair. While the appearance of the car is still clearly visible, its function was destructed.
